ASIAD football: Bao Khanh, Quy Suu and Duc Cuong added to U-23 team
Coach Alfred Riedl of the Vietnam men’s national football team has decided to enter Bao Khanh, Quy Suu and Duc Cuong in the final list for the competition at the 15th Asian Games (ASIAD) to take place in Doha, Qatar from November 28 to December 14.
Mr Mai Duc Chung, head of the Vietnam Committee for Sports and Physical Training’s football department and assistant to coach Alfred Riedl, said that the above three players were selected in replacement of Van Thanh, Quang Huy and A Huynh.
Despite his serious mistakes at the recent Agribank Cup, goalkeeper To Vinh Loi continues to be trusted as coach Riedl turned the green light on Thach Bao Khanh instead of goalkeeper Quang Huy (over 23 years old).
Vietnam will play the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Bahrain in the men’s Group B of the Football Tournament at the 15th Asian Games (ASIAD).
There will be as many as 30 men’s U-23 teams competing in two rounds. The preliminary round includes only eight teams in groups 1 and 2, who will play against each other to qualify for the second round, with 24 teams divided into six groups (named A, B, C, D, E and F).
Meanwhile, in the women’s football events, the Vietnamese team will compete in group B, which includes the Republic of Korea, the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea, Thailand and Taiwan. The team is likely to rank third at best.
