Nhan Dan Online - Vietnam started the game with great determination to win the match as they were held 0-0 by Singapore in the first-leg semi in Hanoi four days ago.

But it was Singapore who brought pressure to bear on Vietnam, producing attack after attack from the first whistle. Vietnamese goalkeeper Hong Son caught two long -ball shots in the first and second minutes.

Bennet Daniel and Alam Shah tested Hong Son with their strikes in the 6th and 7th minutes.

In the 20th minute Alam Shah powerful shot was over the crossbar.

Meanwhile Vietnam played defensive-counter-attack game, trying to prevent all the attacks that went to their way. From 20th minute Vietnam had several counter attacks.

In the 26th minute Vu Phong made the first shot which was wide of the right post. Eight minutes later Tai Em crossed the ball to Cong Vinh in the favourable position but he was ruled offside.

It was Singapore’s turn to attack again, creating two clear chances to score. Alam Shah’s wonderful scissor strike in the 38th minute was wide of the post.

And one minute to the end of the first half there was chaos in front of Vietnam’s goal but Thanh Luong blocked a close shot and Vu Phong struck the ball away. Two minutes to the second half, Shi Jiayi’s super shot from a long range was saved by keeper Hong Son.

Singapore created a lot of chances to open the scoring but they failed to finish. In a quick counter attack Quang Hai scored the opener to help Vietnam come ahead in the 75th minute. Cong Vinh broke through the box and his cross found Quang Hai and Quang Hai, without mistake, slotted the ball into the net, giving goalkeeper Lionel Lewis no chances.

It was Hong Son who played a superb game, saving Indra’s shot in the 70th minute, Alam Shah’s strike one minute later and two other shots in the 83rd and 86th minutes. In the 88th minute, Singapore’s attack caused chaos in front of Vietnam’s goal again but Viet Cuong prevented Singapore’s shot. Vietnam put up a strong defence in the last minutes to the end and all Singapore’s efforts to equalise were in vain.

Defeating Singapore in the second-leg semi, Vietnam will play against Thailand in the first-leg final in Bangkok on December 24 and in the second-leg final in Hanoi on December 28.
