Nhan Dan Online- Vietnam lost 0-2 to Thailand in their first match of Group B of the AFF Suzuki Cup at Surakul stadium, Phuket on Saturday 06/12/2008.

The hosts made attack after attack straight after the start with shots from Dangda, Nutnum and Thonglao in the 5th, 10th and 15th minutes. But goalkeeper Hong Son’s excellent saves gave them no chance. 

Sutee Suksumkit opened the scoring from a fine free-kick in the 34th minute, helping Thailand take the lead. 

Then it was Vietnam’s turn to attack but they could not break the hosts’ solid and strong defense. 

In the last minute of the first half, keeper Hong Son’s mistake allowed Nutmum to score the second goal for Thailand. In the second half, the Vietnamese footballers tried their best to come from behind but all their efforts were not enough to score. 

Defeated by Thailand in the first match, Vietnam still have hopes to reach the semi-finals, if they beat Malaysia on December 8 in a decisive match. 

Earlier in another match, Malaysia thrashed Laos 3-0.
