02/07/2014 (Vietnam) Vietnam 6-0 Myanmar (Friendly)
(Nhan Dan Online) – Toshiya Miura staged a dream debut as coach of the
Vietnam men’s national football team as his players demolished Myanmar
6-0 in a friendly match at Go Dau Stadium in Binh Duong province on July
2.
Vietnam played a 4-4-2 formation with defenders Van Hoan, Phuoc Tu,
Tien Thanh and Van Bien; forwards Minh Tuan, Tan Tai, Hoang Thinh and
Thanh Luong; strikers Cong Vinh and Hai Anh; and goalkeeper Nguyen Manh.
Strongly supported by local fans, the Vietnamese guys put pressure on
the Burmese right from the first whistle. The hosts went close to
opening the scoring after three minutes as Tan Tai took a convenient
pass before curling a shot off post.
Fans did not wait long to celebrate Vietnam’s opener. From Myanmar’s
10th-minute defensive lapse, Hai Anh rocketed a close-range strike to
beat Burmese keeper, Thiha Si Thu. Five minutes later, the Dong Nai
striker headed Cong Vinh’s accurate cross to double his team’s
advantage.
Cong Vinh made it 3-0 for Vietnam in the 20th minute and scored a
fourth 10 minutes before half-time to wrap up the first half with the
hosts enjoying a four-goal margin.
Despite displaying a more positive face in the second term, Myanmar
failed to create any threats to the Vietnamese defence and had to
concede two more goals in the 52nd and 86th minutes by Cong Vinh and
substitute Van Quyet.
The 6-0 victory was a perfect start to the national football team under
Miura, allowing home fans to hope for a brilliant performance at the
2014 AFF Suzuki Cup in three months’ time.
